BBS-LA DEDICATED INTERNET ACCESS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Dedicated Access?  Dedicated Internet Access is Internet Access provided through a permanent connection to the Internet, generally through the use of a Cable modem, or a DSL, FRAME RELAY or Point-To-Point T-1 telephone line connected either directly or indirectly to the Internet backbone. This type of connection is often referred to as an "always on" connection in contrast to dial-up Internet access where the connection must be "dialed" or established each time a session is started. BBS-LA can provide dedicated DSL, FRAME RELAY and Point-To-Point T-1 access for customers ranging from 64Kbps to full T-1 access.

Why would I want Dedicated Access?  The primary reason to purchase dedicated Internet access is to obtain greater bandwidth than is available using dial-up connections. Currently, single line analog dial-up access is limited to 56Kbps (actually 53Kbps). Multi-linking multiple phone lines can achieve 96-106Kbps or greater, depending on the number of lines used for multi-linking. Digital ISDN dial-up access provides 64Kbps per channel to a maximum of 128Kbps on a single line. Multiple ISDN lines can also be multi-linked. Aside from these bandwidth limits, there are cost considerations. Analog lines are unlimited use flat rate phone lines for residential customers but are metered rate lines for commercial customers. ISDN digital lines are metered rate lines for both residential and commercial customers although at different rates.. As a result, metered rate lines can cost up to as much as $350.00 (POTS) to $700.00 (ISDN) each per month if used heavily. In addition, each line requires a separate modem and ISPs generally also charge extra for multi-linking. Dedicated Internet Access can provide cost-effective broad bandwidth access.

What are my choices?
